Read this commencement speech by Steve Jobs, performed at Stanford University in 2005. You only have to read the first part of the speech, which you can access by clicking here or using the handout I gave you in class. Take note of the topics and main ideas of the passage. We will discuss it tomorrow in class.

3. Remember to take that survey I e-mailed to you. Try to finish it by Friday. You can also click here to access it.
3. Study passive grammar. We will review the passive on Monday and have a short (45 min) test. For this test, you should study the passive voice, and you will also be given a reading/listening passage with comprehension questions.

1. Workbook, Practice 4, page 42
2. Find ONE example of a conditional sentence in real life. It can be something you heard someone say, from a TV show or movie, or something that you read in the news. Bring the answers to the following five questions on a piece of paper in class tomorrow. You will share your answer with other students, so please be prepared!!
1. What was said?
2. How was it said?
3. Where was it said?
4. What is interesting about it?
5. How would you say it in a different context?

1. Workbook p. 43-44, Practice 6
2. Write a description of a famous person on the blog, using at least five sentences and some of the adjectives we have been learning in class. Don't say their name! At the end of your post, write, “Who is it?”
3. Respond to one of your classmates post on the blog, and try to guess who the person is.
Example: This person is very famous all over the world, but especially in the United States. He is tall, slender, and of African-American descent. He has dark brown eyes, a wide nose, and full lips. His hair is buzzed short, and is grey and black in color. He is usually very serious when he gives political speeches, but sometimes the media catches him saying something funny or quirky. He has a wife and two daughters. He lives in a very famous house, which is located on the east coast of the United States. Who is it?

1. Study for the test tomorrow! It will cover the grammar (conditionals - all types) and will also include a writing section in which you will have to describe someone's physical appearance.
2. To help study for the test tomorrow, make a list of as many adjectives as you can think of that would describe someone's physical appearance. Write at least 20 adjectives.

2. Learn about adjective clauses. Read the grammar explanations in your book on page 85-87. Watch the video displayed below and answer the following questions in your notes:
What is an adjective clause?
What is a defining (also called identifying) relative clause?
What is a relative pronoun?
What is the difference between a subject pronoun or an object pronoun?
In what situation do people remove the relative pronoun? Why?
3. If you have any questions about the grammar or you are still confused about it, write a comment on the grammar blog I set up for you.

1. If you are still confused about relative clauses and want to know more about the rules, this website is really great! And this website is a little easier to understand.
2. You will give a short presentation in class next Thursday, June 19, that is about 3-5 minutes. You may choose any topic that you find interesting. When you present, you may use note cards, but you should not be reading from a script. Please try to include at least three relative clauses. Over the weekend, I would like you to practice and prepare your presentation.
3. Watch a movie in English! You may watch it with subtitles in English if you want, but try not to rely on the subtitles. We will talk about it on Monday!

6. Tomorrow in class, we will be using some technology to review for the final. Please download the "QR Reader" application onto your smartphone or tablet and bring it to class tomorrow. If you don't have one or will not have access to it tomorrow, don't worry! We can share.
